Made in extremely limited quantities from low yielding vines, Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz was first produced from the outstanding 1998 vintage.
Platinum Label vineyards are characterised by their intensity of colour, concentration of fruit flavour, an elegant, balanced structure and long, fine tannins.
Vineyard parcels were crushed, destemmed and kept separate in small batch open fermenters. A mix of pumping over and plunging was used to maximise extraction while retaining concentration and depth of fruit. Some parcels were pressed at 7 days to contribute a full, soft middle palate while others stayed on skins for 14 to 20 days to enhance the tannin structure and length of flavour. The individual parcels were gently pressed and transferred to a mix of new and one year old French oak for 20 months before final blending and bottling.
